It seems I was mostly unlucky here, although I'm still not sure *what* it was that indicated that to my players.
If I *know* I'm failing to convey it, I feel like I can come right out and say "OOC you should know that a frontal assault would be about 50/50, I'm ok if you take that or if you look for other options of which there are likely to be some".
But often *something* has gone wrong and even that doesn't seem to bridge the gap, like my previous descriptions have conveyed something else, and now what I say just seems at-odds with the world and gets rejected
