I often do my best work/play when slightly tired/drunk as then I just plow ahead, too apathetic to change to doing something else and slightly spaced all the while...
Though I think there's too much emphasis on gender. The queen shouldn't be contrained to be a female. And I think the emphasis of HP on chess is overrated; the few chess scenes rarely seem concerned with the dynamics of chess, merely it as a unit representing thought/conflict.
