The read only options are fairly standard for mailboxes and calendars if you're using Outlook across a large-organisation work network (I seem to remember Outlook offers about 6 different combinations depending on whether you can just read, read and create, read create and edit and a couple of others).
I agree that this (at least the read only option) would be a great option to have much more standardly on more sorts of accounts.
