Computers

I haven't bought, or even browsed for, a computer for ages. I'm pleased to see Moore has finally brought down price as well as just exponentiating specs -- a computer for a few hundred quid is finally a *nice* price :)

At work, I had to use a computer with IE6. Agh! Partly it's just not the shortcuts I'm used to, but no easy way to flip through a page text search, and not able to click-new-tab click-new-tab click-new-tab click-new-tab browse do aggravate. And going to cartesiandaemon.livejournal.com/friends/feeds produces IE's own 404 if you're not logged in, which is distinctly less helpful. OK, it does have useful info in theory, but now my eye scans it as one lump, whereas an lj login link would be useful.

Last night I installed the wireless router I got for my brithday (thank you!). It took a bit of fiddling, but I can browse the internet in the kitchen without trailing a cable -- not that I really need to, which is why I never bothered before, but it's a nice touch.

While I was setting up the network (dubbed 'anansi'), there was one or two other wireless networks seeping in through the walls. One which apparently switched its name to "Fuck off". I presume the computer at some point tried to connect to it and they detected this, but I'm not sure -- I'm fairly sure I didn't click on it, and I thought windows only tried to connect to listed networks automatically. I wanted to go and apologise, and ask what was wrong, but couldn't knock on every door, and didn't want to go changing 'anasi' to a message, that'd get silly.
