Jan. 27th, 2006 02:28 pmI was looking through my links of amusing news, and unfortunately, most of it wasn't very after all, so I didn't bother. Here's the last of it.
http://www.newscientist.com/channel/mech-tech/dn7251 - Robotic camel jockeys will take the place of children in the United Arab Emirates. We really are living in the future.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/630/630210p1.html - "This will be either inspiring or creepy, depending on your personal views: Left Behind Games is at work on Left Behind: Eternal Forces, a real-time strategy game based on the "intensely popular" series of Biblically-themed End Days novels."
Eek. Following in the footsteps of the old testament text adventure game? Or maybe not.
http://www.gausspistol.com/ - "How is a Gauss Pistol better than a regular gunpowder type pistol?" "It isn't. Coil guns weigh more, cost more, are far more complex and far less reliable than ordinary firearms. But there are inherent limitations to muzzle velocities in an expanding gas powered gun due to the high temperatures and pressures created in the explosion which effectively places a speed limit of around 2km/s for this type of system. It is theoretically possible to achieve much higher velocities than that with a coil gun (maybe one day approaching a significant fraction of the speed of light!) since there is no explosion involved.
See, firefly has a point :)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/4638946.stm - One that isn't funny. "A Japanese nurse who tore off patients' toenails and fingernails because of a work grudge has been jailed for three years and eight months." -- a job for Psychotic!Chess? :)
