Unsurprisingly, I loved it. Just about everything was well done, and there wasn't a character who wasn't amazing, and there were a lot of them.
I won't try to describe everything, but a random selection: Captain Shakespeare dancing was beautiful, the brothers' ghosts were lovely, Tristan and Yvaine portrayed their characters exactly,. Atreic had a good description, that also noted some problems I couldn't articulate.
In fact, I think I liked it more than I liked the book. I need to reread the book to be sure, but I never did like the book as much as many people did, or as much as I liked a couple of other Gaiman books.
If that were true it would be the only example I've found of a good book, but where many of the good things worked even better on film. There are lots of good adaptions of good books, but that can never live up to the original. There are lots of completely different films based on books that may or may not be good but didn't have much to do with the book. Books of films I will avoid mentioning.
There's a few films I've seen where I've read the book they were based on afterwards, and thought the film might have been an improvement: Princess Bride, and the First Great Train Robbery. But it's extremely questionable and it's impossible to be sure because one is always biased to the medium you first see something in.
