Ella Enchanted
May. 6th, 2012 04:41 pmAs a "loosely inspired" update of the Cinderalla story, Ella Enchanted is very good. The story is recognisably similar, but different enough it doesn't feel slavish, or a tedious subversion. And the "Ella is forced to obey any command she hears" can be very heartbreaking.
But the other two-thirds, of a pseudo-medieval fairy tale setting with random and unconnected modern views of recycling, racial equality, boyband fangirls, etc grafted on, unsurprisingly bored me. (I don't know if it would be interesting to someone inclined to give it a go, or just inherently a bit inspipid).
