I'm not positive of the exact sequence of events. I think I had an amazon account from a few years before, tried to log in, couldn't remember the details and had the impression it must have not existed, been cancelled, or under another email/password I no longer had, and created another. However, in fact, it seemed I created another account with the same email address.
Thus when you log in, and more annoyingly when you reconfirm your password, if you use the other password you silently get the other account, with no indication of which is right.
This became apparent when a recent order had no record, and I emailed amazon support and they worked out and explained the situation. I felt stupid for accusing them when I had made a mistake, but kind of annoyed that they made it possible.
I didn't see a way of deleting an account, and besides, I think I might have used it once and didn't want to erase any history there was, so changed the name to remind me.
