But if you want my opinion on why, I think it's a side effect of my hating being ignorant, but not minding being lazy or careless. For instance, I'll always rather a supervisor thought I didn't bother to try very hard than that I tried for ages and couldn't do it, whichever is true.
And I don't know why I do *that* either, except that I generally like to be competant, but think that being lazy isn't being not competant. Except for (1).
