That's what I was imagining. I can almost see the curvy blue-on-white sign with "..."s and maybe even some clip-art of a smiling person :)
In truth, we'll probably actually get used to the current convention and keep it forever, but it still seems unhelpful to me. The idea that you should pull up to a pump and blithly start filling, then leave your car parked blocking the way to the pump while you pay seems to belong to the same bizarre milennium where airline database queries had to have a special building to hold the interface :)
