No, I think you can make it up as you go along - just try not to dig yourself into any holes you can't get out of. But then that's obvious :)
I sort of like flux, but for me it suggests a manipulation of some other-dimensional forces, which I don't think is exactly what you want. You could go with ether, but that's a little boring. Sub? Or make up a word - something crazy like stoon, or prewt. Or 'ether' in a different language - eg, 'etere' in Italian.
