Oh, there are entire genres of arty films where practially nothing happens at all. There was one adaptation I saw of Don Quixote which was essentially minus all of the plot, and consisted entirely of long sparse scenes of Don and Sancho trekking through/camping out in the Spanish countryside, and Don occasionally ranting about something. Compared with that anything mainstream is a whirlwind of things happening.
