They generally seem to either differ in the special cases you don't think of until they appear on an example sheet ("Oh, right! Any foo EXCEPT the empty set.") or have some link you'll learn next year ("Oh, right! That's why those completely different things have the same name.")
Or, in particularly amusing cases, are massive typos :)
