Non-fiction fits my "make brain hum without revving it too hard" bill very well, especially things that are properly chewy and not too dry.
I feel safe enough among your usual audience to admit to my geekness that I enjoy things like The Oxford Companion to the English Language for this. (Not the concise one, the 2" thick paperback.)
