I was going to link this on twitter, but the most terse I could make it just didn't fit...
Don't play pranks, unless you're sure the target will not be harmed and will enjoy it. Even if something goes wrong. And you're prepared to apologise if you're wrong.
Especially don't play pranks at work.
Especially x2 don't play pranks on people you're in a position of authority over.
Especially x7 don't shit in peoples' lunchboxes.
Especially x99 don't shoot BB guns at people, shoot golf balls "at regions where you're usually sure-ish none of your coworkers are in", and set up a bombs for them to inadvertently set off.
Especially x999 don't fire them for insubordination if they complain about it.
But if you do, absolutely waive your 5th amendment rights and testify to it all in court.
It also makes me depressed, I don't know if I would ever be good enough at being in charge of people. But, like, I think I could figure out "don't contravene the international treaty banning the use of land-mines on personnel", and this guy didn't, and got promoted. Afterwards :(
