I thought it was very good.

* Something was slightly off about all the characters, I couldn't put my finger on it. Contrariwise, they all seemed nearly perfect for the role. Prothero, Sutler, Creedy all differently creepy. Rea and assistant lovely. Evey and Gordon sweet.

* But if not *perfection* I enjoyed it very much. Action was nice. Creepy parts were creepy, but not squicky. Laugh out loud funny in a few places.

* Being in england made the distopia seem real. And the patriotism more stirring. 1812 is a good choice for blowing up buildings, but my first thought was if I wanted everyone in england to sing with me, I'd choose "Jerusalem" :)

* To start with I liked V. He seemed a genuinely diffident hero, someone who felt he had to do this, but was embarassed by it. Up to the point in the middle where he doesn't take Evey out of the prison, that was grim. But reading about the comic, the ambiguity is probably completely intended.

* I didn't know anything about the comic books. The film felt like it contained a long story, which I attributed to the adaption. Also, you can often just tell, when scenes are given extra importance, that they're in there to fit the original story. But it felt goood to me. However, looking at a summary of the comic now, it looks like it was modified quite a bit, which would be necessary, but I couldn't say if it did keep the spirit or, as I think the author might have thought, not.

* Parallels with 1984 (and other things) are obvious. I read 1984 (and animal farm) once, and aren't sure I can ever bring myself to again, but I had a look on IMDB. Distopian england. Big Ben. John Hurt is there as Chancellor as a nice turnaround (though every time I saw him I thought of Barty Crouch as minister for magic). I looked at the poster for 1984, and there was a vast 'V for Victory' under the logo, which made me cold.

* When he is shot, he cleverly (I assume) has a bullet-proof mask as well as body armour. In your face (hah), robocop! :)

* But, agh! How exactly do you get 100000 guy fawkes masks manufactured and delivered without anyone noticing?

Pardon me, but they weren't obvious to you last night, when I mentioned them!

Oh, sorry. I was going to mention you'd pointed them out, but didn't manage to. They are obvious, just not to me.
