Vetinari! Squee! Death! Squee! Nobby and Colon interrogating an assassin! Squee! Vimes and Vetinari! OK, there wasn't room for that here. But Vimes is present in spirit, at least:
When Vetinari appeared he was sitting in the chair opposite Death. He looked all about him. He looked up where the sky wasn't, and down where the ground wasn't, and into the distance where the aquatic mammals frolicked. His eyes met Death's briefly. He studied the chessboard.

Apparently my life is interesting enough to warrant clarification. So, for the benefit of [livejournal.com profile] atreic and anyone else curious, an update. I'll put in the background as well, just in case anyone who doesn't know me personally has been captivated by my writing style and curious.

I just graduated, and got a job on the science park.

Over the past month or so I have been looking to share a house. I am sharing with Georgina, who prefers to be called "George" or occasionally "Porgie" and to the best of my knowledge does not have a live journal. I met her only then, but she's a very good friend of Dunstan, who I know from the Winnie-the-Pooh society. Who says networking is boring or useless? :) We have been looking for a third person, found one who pulled out, and are now supposedly definately but not confirmedly sharing with Nav, a friend of a friend of George.

The house we found was the first one we looked at, but at the time there was another pair who we thought got first dibs, but then they never got back to the agency. When we didn't have a third person we decided to rent for the first month by ourselves, and find someone in the meantime. We currently have Nav, who will hopefully move in a month or before.

For the past two weeks George and I have been trying to get references from our banks and employers, etc. proving we exist (Appiedaize wasn't having any truck with Samuel Johnson's refutation). We finally got the last one back yesterday, and collected the keys, and moved in, and celebrated with the aformentioned Italian.[1]

The house is on acrefield drive, which is (1) just behind the boat houses ("Squee! Lyc[2]ra'd buttocks!"--paraphrased from a friend of George') (2) just over the river from jesus green (just past the second, currently broken) bridge (3) just north-west of where it crosses Elizabeth Way crosses the river (4) in the triangle formed by the river, Chesterton Road, and Elizabeth Way. I was going to have a poll which of these was the most useful direction, but can't be bothered.

There will be a housewarming party at some point, promise. Suggestions?

[1] An Italian meal. An Italian was mooted by various voices, but when the only continental-beautiful-body/meal pun we could come up with that wasn't as crude as "eating it" was "They'd both be covered in oil" the voices were muted, and the point was finally mooted in the US sense.

[2] Edit: Atreic gave me a 'c'.

I'm stopping in the new house for the first time tonight. Mum's been helping me move, so she's staying in my college room, and I'm going to go try out my new bedding. I'm currently half way over, and using a college computer to spod because I've been busy all day and now I don't want to keep mum up.

I don't yet have internet at the new house. We need to decide to get broadband, a phone or some combination ASAP. Fortunately I still have PWF and I have a trinity swipe card for the new year (accomodation officers aren't evil in *all* ways), and I *think* I can continue to use my trinity IP address on my laptop from the common room.

This is nearly it, the chapter after this is a short one and basically just winding down. Several of the principal players meet, or nearly meet. A really bad pun I've been building to all story is perpetrated. We sort of meet the death of fowl.

Most things are explained, though, according to some, too obliquely (if it doesn't make any sense this time, or certainly after the next chapter, please respond, and I'll have a rethink about the ending).
He tore it open and read:
Dear Cpt. Vimes,

Unfortunately I am unable to see you at this time. However, I am forced to testify some facts which should greatly shorten your current investigation.
Vimes cursed. Did "should greatly shorten" mean the Patrician thought shortening likely? Or desirable? Or both? How did Vetinari know all this?

Oh, and I was looking at the server logs on srcf and noticed an http_referer showed someone I didn't know reading one chapter from a friends-of-friends page. Wow, I'm famous! :)
