Cartesian-heights.org
Jul. 9th, 2009 11:23 pmCartesian-heights.org is temporarily down. In the meantime wheresmystuff.cartesian-heights.org is accessibly at the hosting company, at http://wheresmystuff.nfshost.com.
(I've not had any of the time I needed to add any additions to it, even basic fixes, but it still works as much as it did a month ago.)
I can't work out, did something in the CSS also break since last time I looked at it, or did it always look like that? (Specifically, the background, and the amount the black footer stands out against the white background.)
What happened was, I deisively signed up to servage.net, and then suddenly remembered many negative reviews, and requested a refund, and then signed up to nearlyfreespeech.net. However, the domain was registered for free on servage.net, and the domain servers continued to work for a while, so I resolved to sort it out later. When pseuodomonas alerted me that the domain was down, I went to check. Apparently, at some point, the domain servers had stopped working, but the domain was still registered at servage. Servage online support was very helpful, considering this domain had been registered on my behalf and I hadn't given them any money, so thank you. However, the response was (a) yes, we'd be happy to transfer it somewhere else (which was very good of them) but (b) no, we don't know why it didn't work, yes, you're right, presumably because the 60-post-registration time-out is still active, I don't know why we didn't tell you that when we told you it was ok to transfer it, no there's nothing else we can do.
It wasn't clear if "nothing" excluded paying them money for the domain, or temporarily re-enabling the domain servers for it, or if it merely meant there was no way to transfer it. Since I'm probably not going to have any time to do anything in the next month, I figure I might as well wait. Is that the right choice? Alternatively, should I bother servage to arrange anything else, or abandon the domain and register a new one?
