Well, I want to write about this week's episode, so it must have been effective in some ways, whether or not you love it.

It's always risky to leave out the main characters or otherwise do something completely different, there have been notable disasters, but overall I approve of trying; and I did like the idea of this. Many aspects just seemed odd:

* for god's sake! make their being taken over be plausible
* the episode can't make up it's mind if it's trying to be funny or trying to be creepy. I do like a mix, but being absorbified is pretty horrible; either have dark things happening and people using dark humour to deal and amuse us (like buffy) or make the entire thing funny (like most comedies, etc.)
* the doctor and rose at the end. I normally like devil-may-care attitudes, but they just seem too ridiculously cavalier with other people's lives

But I did like LINDA, and the idea of the monster, and even that he was from the twin planet of you-know-where. I liked the LINDA characters, and the points made about their and Jackie's lives.

I hated it, but then I can't stand Peter Kay and as soon as he went back to his normal accent all I could see was a Northern bloke bellowing about "GARLIC! BREAD!" It felt like he'd really wanted to be on Dr Who, but couldn't help playing it for laughs when he got there.

I really liked the LINDA bits though, and the shot when they were doing the band and all looked as though they were having a great laugh almost redeemed the terrible monster.

It just seemed like a wasted opportunity to be a much better episode.

I think you forgot to mention Marc Warren's cuteness ;)
