Since much of my life is described on my LJ one way or another anyway, I have formed the habit of recording a basic diary here too so I can always check what I did on a given day, which is often useful for remembering anniversaries, necessary renewals, holidays, etc.

Previously I made private posts to my LJ, but since "what I did last night" isn't private, just not of interest to anyone but me and a few close friends/family I don't email as often as I'd like, it would make sense if people didn't see it by default, but could do so if they chose to. I know there are better technical solutions but don't have time to decide on one, so for now it goes in the community cartesian_notes, and anyone interested can friend it.
