* Coke icecubes don't sink
* Saturated sugar icecubes *do*, however, although (a) I wouldn't swear to anything regarding their enthalpy and (b) they look very weird.
* In fact, in all honesty, the best solution for "ice cubes attacking your nose" is just to only use one or two, and everything's fine. That would only actually fail if you want to leave it standing a long time.
* However, I think the marble thing is very cool, so want to try it out of all proportion to the extent that it solves the issues I described[Dagger].

ETA: http://www.flashingblinkylights.com/lightup-products-lighted-cubes-c-114_77.html is an example of the other suggestion, that light-up cubes can probably be made to sink, or even be neutrally buoyant.

alas, your original ice-cubes entry is not tagged ice-cubes. Darn it!

Oh yes, unfortunately, I haven't really settled down to a consistent use of tagging yet. Maybe something like a race/class system? I generally try to use some broad category, that in theory someone might want to see all of, and also to hit any relevant keywords. Ideally there'd be some sort of inheritance system, eg. I can use "book" and that could be equated with someone else's more or less specific tagging of "review", "fiction", "media" etc.

But it's hit and miss. Partly I can't always think of everything relevant. Partly I try to use too many relevant tags to give myself the best chance of finding it later. Partly I try to classify, just in case anyone wants to read all of my lj *except* the introspective posts. Partly posts change so fast I can be tagging what I *intended* to write :) Partly it's never clear what keyword tags might later be promoted to category (eg. "phone menu rants" :))

You could have a kind of nose-shield?

Indeed, I was considering an ablatative barrier of a glass wall and a few inches of water to do so :)

But playing with buoyancy's more fun!

Come to think of it, possibly my sentence was ambiguous. I meant not that "I was wondering whether to change my mind and have a shield instead" but that "the glass I already have functions as my shield". I'm sure you guessed, hence the solidarity with the crazy marble-cycling-across-Cambridge idea :)

even just one ice cube invariably goes straight for the nose. I generally remove my ice cubes as soon as possible if there is an acceptable container nearby.

I find one is usually ok -- it ought to float to the back of the glass when you tip, right? :) But I'm glad to see someone apparently is a taker for my solution! :)

Of course, an icecube of constant density would have the further advantage thought it could be made neutrally buoyant and stay that way as it melts, rather than rising/sinking at some point, or breaking off. But I still like the marbles.

perhaps I have a more attractive nose than you.

at least to ice cubes.

ROFL. Your nose is very cute. But as a theory, it reminds me of intelligent falling ;)
