Thoughts - Cold coffee

There are many foods which are *better* hot. And many that, while weird cold, have their place -- cf. compscis and pizza. And there are iced coffees, or otherwise intentional cold caffeine drinks, which are great.
Apparently, chilling counteracts flavour to a certain extent -- some people are very snobbish about chilling wines and beers, since it seems to imply it's bad. Though one can overcompensate -- when dechilling red wine on a radiator, if it's warm to the touch you've probably overdone it, though it's unusual, not unpleasant. Mulled wine is positively gorgeous.
Iced tea is worshipped. Depending on my mood I drink water chilled, room temp, hot, and occasionally slightly warm, though the experience of body temp coffee is very weird, as you can feel it, but get no sensation of taste, so it's like a ghost!
Just now I put my lips to coffee, and everloving crap was it awful. Warm coffee is ok, though not great. But cooled completely, especially unexpectedly, it's hard not to gag, and spew the ichorous beverage over a variety of expensive electronic equipment and week's work...
WHY?

Date: 2005-01-14 01:19 pm (UTC)[1] Isn't re-microwaving water a recipe[3] for superheating scalding disasters, or something?
[2] What does puzzle me is a friend who always drinks half a cup of coffee. Or half of however much he's poured. Why that, too??
[3] Pun intended.
