Dream

OK, that was weird: I often have dreams about weird things, but it was weird that I remembered so much of this for no particular reason. Normally if I remember a dream it's one clear image, that often has some reasonable interpretation, or cries out to be made into a story.

As I wrote this, I realised many things did hark back to things I heard or saw recently, strung together by a random narrative. I don't know if it's just random, or that I so rarely remember dreams my subconscious seized the chance to pack in as many references as possible :)

* There were too adjacent colleges, like the grammar school I went to and adjacent girl's school (it had the same name as that, Alice Ottley)
* I sent out some notification that some administrative infractions would have some severe consequences
* I was in the girl predominated college, going to a bathroom with many stalls
* I was confused about the gender of the bathroom. There was a "baby changing" next to a "woman" sign on a wall inside, but when I went back to the entrance, which had complicated double doors, one stood ajar and clearly had a "male" sign. (Although I had to concentrate to tell the signs apart.)
* I went a stall. A woman came in, and apparently it was unisex afterwards, which puzzled me for a moment, and then I accepted it. The bathroom was now quite busy, and she was in a stall next to mine.
* Now I discovered the stall walls were low enough that we could chat, only with adjacent people, and this seemed natural.
* She was very concerned, she had been late, or whatever it was my email had been about. She was worried she would have gone to jail for about a month (there was a specific number of days, and this seemed harsh but quite reasonable). I racked by brains to think of an out for her, and eventually pointed out that they only applied to *my* institution, not hers.

* It was sunny outside, and I met her again on a path with a group of other people. I was going to give her my email address to stay in touch, but she was gone. I remembered her name: Fidak.
* She was graduating (or some other ceremony). I was going to go in and watch everything. Queues of people waited outside, and I wanted to make my way past to the appropriate entrance, but someone spoke to me.
* It was someone I knew slightly from school. (We once traded a book, about the only time I ever swapped something.) He said something about me not being supposed to go that way, and in fit of pique I turned back, intending to go out the side gate and follow the edge of the college all the way round to come in the other way.
* There was a concrete-like road curving down a hillside, ending in a concrete-like swimming pool full of water.
* My memory is a little fuzzy here, but I had to cause some sort of distraction from some sort of alien/mad scientist thing going on. Someone used a stunner/taser and made a big explosion by electrocuting the water.
* There was an appendix at the end discussing some of the gadgets I found later, and whether the magnitude of this was plausible[1].
* I went on. I was at the top of a valley. A bit further round was a path back to the other side of castle, but I knew mum and I used to go straight down here.
* It looked like a sheer drop, but I went forward, and hidden by the edge was a very steep but navigable path down to one side. But I didn't think I safely descend, and went on to the longer path.
* This was slower. I can't remember the details of the next bit, but there were lots of weird scientific experiments, and a rocket. And I made it ok. And then I woke up.

Isn't adding a footnote that says 'God, even my dreams have footnotes!' just an incey wincey bit cheaty? ;)

Also, yay for dreams :)
