With thanks to Matt R and PJC respectively for most recently linking me to them,

Scorching Earth, a flash puzzle game where you play as a forest fire.

Fantastic Contraption, a very pretty mechanics game: build things out of wheels and rods and water, bouncily and convincingly

Ah, yay, Fantastic Contraption. ToothyWiki got collectively addicted to that a week or two ago, and there are many fun contraptions posted on that page.

I've played Scorching Earth, too. Some of the puzzles were surprisingly tricky. It's not as good as that time-travelling robots one you posted a while back, though :)

Thank you!

I thought it was elegant, simple, well-designed and ingeniously conceived (and really hard), but the latest in a long line of very good non-pirate non-timetravel games, rather than something unique :)

That is, nothing can match time-travel as a premise :) I remember Dad telling me about an interview he'd heard on a radio:

Interviewer: So, why have you never written another book as good as Catch-22?
Joseph Heller: Not many people have, mister!
