Tomorrow morning I have a job interview at Autonomy. Anyone thinking good thoughts about me at 11am would be greatly appreciated.

"You don't want to be a java gimp, but your strong academic background is exactly what they want for a programmer."
"Well, there's worse sorts of gimps to be paid to be. But yes, the programming sounds good."

Good luck. They wouldn't employ me, but you're far more their kind of thing (you wouldn't turn up to the interview with pink hair, right?) - and Java's fairly funky really ;)

Bad form, I know, replying to myself and all that, but a thought:

If you're not looking for a job-for-the-next-n-years type job, rather something to pay the rent now while you sort yourself out, you could do worse than Library House. I'm not just saying this because I get to make hiring decisions and get a referral bonus; I'm leaving next week, so both are pretty doubtful. The work is a mix of entrepreneurship knowledge (and learning about stuff like what VCs actually do all day), Linux hacking (if you're me, anyway), and using google creatively to dig out information on companies. Occasionally you have to phone them up. Knowledge of anything IT-ish is useful, ability to assimilate information quickly more so.

If you're interested let me know & I'll pass on the email address of the hiring manager. Or it's in the careers bulletin from one of the recent weeks. either way, say you know me if you apply - it's a 100% success record so far ;-)

If you're not interested - no worries. :)

Hmmm... I'm not sure what they're looking for, then. I'd have thought they'd have liked you. Oh, well, fingers crossed. And I'd like to learn Java fairly soon, but don't think I can get a job in it at the moment.

Oh, and thanks for the library house tip. I'll see how it goes, I might yet get back to you on that.
