I woke up at about 9.00, which isn't exactly very early, but I've been being consistent about it, so it felt good, and also didn't leave mum alone for *too* many hours. And I'd left breakfast out for her, which I think she thought was sweet.

We wanted to look about at some cambridge countryside, so imulsively we decided to go to the Confluence (of the Cam and the Ouse). After the normal argy-bargy about where to park and swearing at the map-reader and people offering advice deliberately late[1].

The landscape was lovely and fenny. It is like just outside cambridge, yet somehow wilder, while still being within half a mile of a pub, as everywhere in england is[2]. And it was very pretty, and we saw lots of birds, flowers, and rusted microwave parts, though none of which I can remember.

We also saw the "Old Engine" which pumps water into the river, keeping the fen from being entirely flooded. A notice board described a network of drainage channels as "working hard to keep the fens drained" which dad found very amusing because they look even more placid than sleeping cats, and not like they're working hard at all.

But apparently the anti-flooding measures were opposed by ludditesque fenlanders, so the roleplaying campaign involving web-footed[3] fenland freedom fighters trying to overthrow the evil empress who wants to drain their fens is more accurate than we supposed; Arse[4] Magica eat your heart out!

[1] Note to mum and dad: Actually, I made this bit up to make it sound more interesting. Map reading does tend to stress us out, but never to the point of swearing, only to occasionally altering tones of voice when saying things like "...as I said." and "We're driving towards a what?" and we always make up within six seconds :)
[2] Apart from Scorton, the village with five churches and no pub.
[3] I forgot to ask if he looked like Mel Gibson. Sonic?
[4] Pun accidental but left in. <-This phrase needs an acronym, since npi is NEVER true.

Making breakfast for her was sweet.

Rusted microwave parts huh? Got to love that Cambridgeshire countryside :)

Well, it was, as was making dinner the day before, but it was a drop in the ocean compared to what she does for me.

Have we? Oops

I swear this cold has left me braindead. I tell you, it's evil - it's resisting the all-powerful lemsip!

I'm trying to write mock Pete!Torture fic, where he's tickled and made to pick up rice grains and stuff (he's Sam's boyfriend series 7), but it's not going well :( Funny that :)

I was joking, I meant where I said I was sweet, but mum was more so :)

Aww. Can you make stronger lemsip? Or go to bed? Or.. I don't know.

That's... weird. Maybe if I'd ever seen him I'd want to torture him more :)

Extra-strong lemsip makes me vomit. I have no idea why, it's very inconvenient, but I try and avoid the stuff. Nah, I'm just going to (suffer in silence) whinge lots to all my friends.

How do I do crossed-through text? I've being trying to google it, but I don't know what the correct term is, so I'm not getting very far :(

I got the idea from someone's comment and I asked if I could nick it, and now I feel I have to write it.

Many many people hate Pete because he's dating Sam, but Sam and Jack are Meant To Be. Remember the parody?

Awwwwww! How about just inhaling it?

In html? Try <strike>, known as strike though. (Which I momentarily forgot, but it says in the Word format dialog box.)

Oh, yes, that's what I thought (both the reason for hating, and that you were writing parody). Are you having any more luck? You could strap Rat's cage to his face :)

Yes. Instead of being sick, I want to choke to death on a mysterious yellow powder.

Try

Thank you!

I don't think I was in a very writery mood yesterday, though I spent some time trying to repair the first half of my chap 18. It's funny - often when I think it's going well, I end up writing the most awful bollocks!

LOL. Sorry, perhaps my using only the opening tag put you off :)

No, not "doing a tim" on the powder, but inhaling the vapour :)

Death by inhalation of suspicious yellow powder. I may need to change my hair colour, but I'm not that out of it!

I'm quite good at slaying people remotely. I once nearly did for alison with an apparently hilarious ongoing punchline, a glass of water, and an extended choking/laughing fit :)

help

Date: 2005-03-29 06:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bachlover.livejournal.com
Dear college dad, I need your help - you may have noticed that my livejournal entries can't exactly be called "short", so I'm wondering how to only show parts of it, and save people space when they click "Friends". Of course, this has nothing to do with Easter Friday, but in the general spirit of goodwill and helpfulness I'm sure you'd give me a hand :-)

It is in the faq (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75) but rather hard to find if you don't know what it's called.

Use <lj-cut>blah</lj-cut> or <lj-cut text="This text will appear as the link.">blah</lj-cut>

Though personally I think it's better to try to split your posts into several smaller ones; there's more chance of them being read that way.

BTW, how are you? Do you want to meet for lunch at the weekend? I owe you from hall dinner last time :)

Date: 2005-03-29 07:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bachlover.livejournal.com
wow, thanks, that was quick. I know, I should split posts, but I'm only creative for such a short time, it's difficult to contain it once I let myself ramble on, and it seems a shame to cut a piece with the same theme into several fragments. Perhaps it wouldn't matter so much if it was just daily posts, but I always seem to be reminiscing.

Lunch would be lovely. Call me or email me nearer the time. Have a good week, and keep posting :p

Date: 2005-03-29 07:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cartesiandaemon.livejournal.com
I was still at work, but taking a break, so I was all poised by my email :)

If it is really all the same theme, then it's ok. But when I have a lot to say I find I can generally make it more specific, even if I post both right next to each other. Also, whenever I think of something to say I jot it in notebook.txt ready to paste in later, so I don't lose anything by not wriitng it down.

Have a good week, and keep posting :p

LOL. OK, will be in touch later.
