1. Wow, Elan has quite possibly become the effective one. I'm very touched.

2. I was really hoping Tarquin would turn out to be Evil, but in a selfish reasonable-to-work-with way (like, say, the Oracle, or Red-Cloak), not a blatant caricature, but I know it's probably necessary for the plot.

:) Although I don't actually expect it to matter very much: I assume the order will triumph in some reasonable way, and I assume Elan is still not actually a better duellist than Tarquin, so he'll either triumph by some sort of dramatic trick, or one of the others will appear and fix everything. But I'm still curious to know exactly what.

Prestige classes can do deeply ridiculous things (indeed, Elan's is predicated thereon). Is there any evidence of daddy having one?

*shrug* If Rich wanted to make Elan out to be that good, he could easily justify it, but in general, he seems to have shot up from "completely hopeless" to "average competence for someone in a high-level party", which is good compared to most people, but probably not a high level antagonist who specialises in armed and armoured fighting.

For that matter, Tarquin is a general, it would be entirely consistent for him not to be good at mano-a-mano fighting, but he looks like the sort of guy who is.
