Left mouse button stuck

jackGah. The left mouse button is stuck. I can prise the casing partially off, and see a little clicking bit of plastic which is down and not come up, but wiggling doesn't do anything. The mouse is comparatively new. I ought to be more experienced fiddling with stuff; are there any good suggestions other than just writing it off?
