Left mouse button stuck

Gah. The left mouse button is stuck. I can prise the casing partially off, and see a little clicking bit of plastic which is down and not come up, but wiggling doesn't do anything. The mouse is comparatively new. I ought to be more experienced fiddling with stuff; are there any good suggestions other than just writing it off?

Years ago I had a mouse with this problem. Spraying in some switch cleaner fixed it, but of course this will only help if it's dirty and not damaged.
