Much of the plot is very good, but I think the major plot of season 3 suffers from concentrating on several things that are inherently problematic:

Holtz is a good idea as a villain, especially if you were paying attention is series 2 and know who he is :) But having a villain with legitimate cause to hate Angel adds a lot of moral complexity I don't think the season is really ready to deal with.

The time-travel demon guy is cool, but is a bit too idiosyncratic as a major villain.

And having a major plot point being false prophecy is just a pain: it directly directs the audience to the weak point in the premise: how reliable/literal are prophecies supposed to be?

The plot introduces Angel's son, which is an interesting idea, but they must have known it was going to be difficult to have a child on the cast. When Connor appears, it feels almost more convoluted than interesting, even though there are some good moments. I felt like it would be more interesting if some magical doodad had made Connor grow up quickly, but on-screen, say a few years per episode.
