Where you in life at a convenient every-round-number-of-years interval (in this case, the census):

Mar 2011

Living in Sherbourne Close, in NE Cambridge. Still renting the same flat I've been in since I six (?) months after I left university and then moved out of the house-share I was in in the meantime. Just started a new job which seems very fun. Got engaged at Christmas, planning a wedding for spring 2012 to the amazingly lovely Livredor.

I don't have any specific plans for the 27th itself: Liv and I are going to a wedding the say before, but I should have no overnight guests on the 27th. The only question I pondered over is if I would be more often cycling or driving to work by then, but I decided the question didn't make that much difference since it would be fairly representative whichever I ticked. (I nearly tossed a coin to avoid internal biases, but guessed instead. It'll depend on how much it rains, if I get my bike fixed, if after work I go into town, how often I want to go to the supermarket, how much I specifically enjoy cycling, etc.)

2001-2011, a summary

Girlfriends: 4 (plus one fling and one date, which were very nice, but not repeated)
Places lived: 3 (three different rooms in Trinity, Acrefield Drive house share, Sherbourne Close)
Jobs: 3 (Broadcom, Cambridge Ultrasonics, Ubisense)
New modes of transport adopted: 4 (eurostar, bike, plane, car chronologically)
Degrees: 2 (BA, CASM) (MA due later this year IIRC?)
Number of times I won the internet: once

Email addresses: two primary email addresses (@cam.ac.uk and @cantab.net), two long-term back-ends (@semichrome.net and @gmail.com), and a number of throw-away accounts.

Purity test score: Dropping like a stone. I've knocked off 80% (?) of the things I might like to do, leaving things that will probably happen eventually, and things that just seem ridiculous.

Programming languages: Several scripting languages, C++

April 2001

Just started first year at University (Matric 2000). For the next six years or so, all my major shifts (graduation flat, job) conveniently aligned fairly well with the university year, to facilitate the counting.

At this point I'd already met the half-dozen people I spent most of the first few years with, many of whom are good friends still. It would be 3rd year before I started getting into geeky soceities (cambridge tolkien society, poohsoc, CU science fiction society, etc), but in first year I went to Cambridge Dancer's Club and to CU bridge club introduction sessions.

I've no idea what I was doing on that particular day, as it was before I started keeping a diary on LJ, and I've lost my @cam.ac.uk email archives somewhere.

1991-2001, a summary

All of secondary school and the last bit of primary school. School was good, but for most of it I am so startlingly intellectual I don't really have any challenge and do well in most things, although this stands me in less good stead when I should be working and aren't used to the idea.

Through this time I don't really bother making any real friends: I go to school, see people at school, but don't really bond with anyone until sixth form when a group of not-very-sociable people started hanging out and I remember some very fun times. I'm not really in touch with any of them at the moment, though I wonder how they're doing.

A-Levels: 5 -- Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics (All grade "A" which was the highest at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Gimme five bees for a quarter, you'd say. Now where was I...?)

GCSEs: 10 -- Maths, 3 Sciences, Electronics, 2 Englishes, History, French(?), IT. (I got an A* in seven, and fluffed one of the English, probably IT, and something else. In this parlance, "fluffed" means "A" :) IT was annoying, as it obviously OUGHT to be interesting, and the bits where we played with computers were great, but the course content was questionable.)

Girlfriends: 0
New modes of transport adopted: 3 (ferry, very inexpertly and only once sailing)
New modes of transport learned: 1 (driving)
Email addresses: 1 (before university, we only had the @clara.net account that came with the ISP.)

Iconic children's TV series imprinted onto: TMNT, Knightmare, Reboot

Programming languages: Visual Basic, C

April 1991

I don't know exactly where I was at this time. I must have been in the penultimate year of primary school (?), in (?) the external little cabin/caravan classroom. I remember almost nothing of the teaching now, and only a few scenes from the classroom at all, but remember the year seemed fairly positive. antepenultimate year of primary school, when the teaching was split between two teachers?

[edit typo]1981-1991, a summary

Infancy and primary school. I don't remember much to talk about at this far juncture.

I lived with my parents in three houses: Little Chestnut Street, which I only remember moving out of, Northfield Street, where we lived for several years, and Pitchcroft Lane where we moved in '89 (?) and still are.

No knowledge of the internet, but at some point in this decade or the next I got a Commodore 64, another Commodore 64, and later a MasterSystem (?)

New modes of transport adopted: Crawling, Walking
New modes of transport learned: Cycling

Iconic children's comics and toys imprinted onto: LEGO, Beano, Dandy, He-Man, Mechano, Transformers

Programming languages (probably all next decade but not sure): Basic, LOGO, Assembly, Machine Code

[edit typo]April 1981

I must have been conceived around this date (?) but I don't know exactly when. I will have to ask my parents :)

I was going to continue this into the past with my parents, but I don't think I've got time tonight :)
