I'm disappointed with everyone. Not one of us at the ceremony yesterday was buttonholed outside the register office to be told the rhyme of the ancient mariner!

In Cambridge, I'd expect a whole crowd of faux-mariners jostling for position outside shire hall :)

The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner starts when an old sailor accosts some guests going to a wedding, and insists on telling them this extended and depressing story about a ship where one of the sailors shot an albatross, and then they were all cursed with bad luck and died of thirst.

It comes up in the first Dirk Gently, I think. It's also famous for having "Water, water, every where, Nor any drop to drink."
