Ah! Jaime Lannister was Peter's german practice partner in Wimbledon (Dieter Prohl). I thought he was cute :)
Is it just me, or despite how gorgeous and appropriate almost all of the settings and characters were, a lot of scenes seem a bit wooden? Like, the character is just reading through the script, but not really angry, or whatever?
I think I said this before, but it's an awesome example of how to flesh out a book for TV. Not everything is exactly the same, but where the settings differ a bit, it's still supporting who the characters are the same way or better. It's not that people hate changes to books: it's that too many changes are "this would look cooler on screen" without caring whether or not its portraying consistent characters or plot.
And there were a few bits throughout which gave me shivers, which is a pretty reliable sign of an awesome series. Especially the bits with white walkers at the beginning, but also the bits with dragons at the end.
And unrelated to the series, but for the series and book both I love how the characters are sufficiently rich people can have massively divergent but both accurate opinions of them. Even george martin has said he varies who his favourite character is.
