Post box

Today I posted a letter. Well, a DVD.

The trick is to remember to bring it to work, remember to leave the office at least once in the day, and remember to bring the letter with you :)

When I got to the postbox, I was puzzled. "Next collection, 'TUE'"? I said? But it's ALREADY Tuesday. Oh, wait, of course, it'll be collected at 5.30.

And that's how I learned, apparently I essentially always post letters at 2am, never before 5.30 PM :)

Post titles

On LJ, I find post titles most useful when I'm browsing lists of old posts looking for something (something specific, or something interesting). I find it doesn't matter much if the title encompasses the whole post, but it's very, very helpful if it's something vaguely related to the subject, not either (a) a coy indirect reference that's clever when you write it, but completely opaque out of context or (b) blank. Even a header like "life" or "stuff today" or "random hacking" is more useful in categorising posts quickly than putting nothing at all (or using the same title for everything).

Having had to search my LJ archive for when I reviewed the previous book in a series, I absolutely concur that ANY post title is better than nothing. I've even found myself irritated when I couldn't be bothered to title private posts that I was using as placeholders while I tried to rephrase--- like the very next post has the polite version of why I think ____ are _____ing idiots.

One of the reasons we stopped getting the DVD by mail service is that it was too much trouble to mail back the DVDs. :-)
