Any suggestions for decent removals company in Cambridge?

Or suggested alternative arrangements for moving? It looks like I will have time off work anyway, so I can plausibly move "stuff" in several car loads and take the opportunity to sort it and throw stuff out as I go. But the sofa will need a van. (Or I'll have to throw it out and buy a new sofa, but I'm not sure if throwing it out would actually be cheaper?)

I'm not sure if it's easiest to get someone to just move everything, or if it's significantly cheaper to look for someone who can just move the sofa and the TV?

Hiring a van and purloining enough people who can do heavy lifting would work out a lot cheaper than a removals firm, if you only have a few things that won't fit in the car. But be careful not to underestimate just how much stuff you have!

If you're going to use an actual removals company rather than a manwithvan or friends, I've moved three times now with Fulchers and had no complaints.

I recommend http://www.taxi-van.co.uk/ - man (or optionally two) with van, moved us in here, competent and polite, not very expensive at all.

(WTF at the captcha? "The number of body parts in the list hotel, elephant, glove, fruit and face is?" I have no idea. What's the granularity of a "body part"? Tried again and got a saner one involving converting a number from words to digits.)

That does sound weird. I think my first guess would be that they meant not "how many body parts are possessed in total by the things on this list?" but "how many things on this list are body parts?", and therefore the answer is one for "face".

Oh, I see - yes, that makes more sense.

"sorting stuff" at the same time as "moving stuff" is the sort of thing that whilst it looks like it should be much easier than doing the two things separately often isn't.

Throwing out a sofa probably needs a van unless you can persuade the council to come pick it up; if you are having a van anyway then you might as well move everything in the van at the same time. You could plausibly drive your own van (considering that, unlike me, you actually know how to drive and practice regularly) and enlist friends to move boxes. Man-with-van usually only drives the van, maybe helps move the sofa. Proper removals people can be paid to do all your packing; how much do you hate packing? (also they will do "whole house at once" which is important if you are having no overlap time where you have access to both houses; but I guess that's not relevant here).
