Fingers inside gloves

When I drive, there's a convenient thermometer that automatically comes on when I start, but when I cycle, there isn't. Since I don't normally actually need to know the temperature, this is fine, except that when I don't know, I tend to assume the temperature is somewhere in a "normal" range, and if I feel really cold, assume I'm just sensitive today, not that the temperature was below -5.

This winter I felt very proud of myself for responsibly having gloves to wear in cold weather. However, today my fingers were going numb with cold inside the gloves, and I started to think that maybe I needed more gloves.

I also need something to cover my ears and face. I don't normally wear scarves because normally I just find them constricting and annoying, but presumably they are the answer to cold faces? Or am I better with a balaclava or face mask or something? I have a scarf, but it's 12 ft long so it's really inconvenient to ever actually use, I think I need a more manageable one.

I wrap 12' of orange around my neck :-p but small scarves might be easier.

I also have fuzzy ear muffs and a fuzzy hat to keep my head warm. But I don't cover my face because I find I can't breath if I do and it doesn't get cold enough in Cambridge to counter the breathing difficulty.

Good point, I should try the scarf again, it's very convenient if it works (and I don't go to Ireland).

I don't want to cover all of my face, but I want to cover my ears and (in this weather) chin and cheeks, which really hurt if I don't...

fuzzy ear muffs ftw. Or you could get one of those Russian style hats that has big ear flaps.

In autumn, shortly before winter began to bite, I finally went and bought a buff (a merino wool one from Open Air). It's amazing: far more convenient than a scarf and almost as warm. Plus, it can be worn with a scarf in silly weather.

Particularly convenient are the considerations that it can safely be worn while driving before the car's warmed up properly and it's compact enough to fit in a pocket.

Wish I'd got one years ago.

I have a fleece cylinder-type neckwarmer. It is cosy.
