I finally accepted that I'm going to buy the entire series, but not today, so it's worth ordering from amazon.

Though, in the interests of wailing against the universe, couldn't there be some universal system of relating books to prevent having to hunt around to establish what's the same? I mean, everyone has a big database of ISBNs that identify books, couldn't there be some record of which books R what book, where R is:

* In the same series
* Later in the same series in publishing order
* Later in the series in internal chronology (more or less, obviously nested books and circular series need arbitrary decision)
* A revision of
* Contains
* A different edition of

Maybe there should be a big website[1]. Maybe there is?

[1] If it was fan-created, it could include "is universally agreed to be better than" and "owned by in your area" :)

Miles Vorkosigan, by LM Bujold. I read them all borrowed from a friend, but liked them enough I wanted to own them. Except it's all rather more complicated because several of them don't seem to have appeared the uk yet, and some have been amalgamated into omnibi[1].

[1] Joke.

and, it sounds like you want something like a books.wikipedia, no? if it isn't there, can't you start it, point all your friends at it, and hope it takes off?

Yeah. Though wikibooks is something else.

As the friend mentioned above, would you like me to reach out my right hand, get them off my bookshelf and email you the ISBN's and/or the ordering?

(Yes, I still exist. Though after another week of trying to act like a Normal Rational Adult I might fade away.)

P.S. The review section on amazon's useful, someone's helpfully listed what's in what. Last time I tried to buy them I couldn't find all of them available as the separate books I lent you. "Borders of Infinity" was split between various compliations. I believe "Codelia's Honor", "Young Miles", "Miles, Mystery and Mayhem", "Miles Errant" covers up to Memory.

Let me guess, you've already bought one from each compliation? :)

LOL. Thank you. No, it's ok. I can piece together what's what from the reviews (as you say below), which make a *start* on what I wanted. I was mainly using it as a basis for saying what I'd *like* to see.

Let me guess, you've already bought one from each compliation? :)

More or less. I bought, I think, most of the ones in Borders. In *retrospect* I should have ordered the whole thing from amazon to start with, but that seemed OTT. It'll teach me: I should always spend *more* money on books or I'll regret it. More! More!
