Where might my virgin media remote have hidden itself?

I had it last week, but I think I left it on the table and my cleaner (or landlord?) put it the "obvious" place but I can't work out where that is. It's not by the TV nor the other remotes. I don't THINK I packed it...

Buried in the sofa? In a drawer in a coffee-table/TV-unit? On a bookcase?

Under a book. Or possibly a piece of paper. Or maybe you carried it into the kitchen in an idle moment?

Or. On that shelf in the fireplace. That'd be a use for it.

I usually have to check the laundry basket, and outside on top of my car. And sometimes the laundry room.

I've sometimes thought that it would take all of 25p to add a photosensor and beeper to a remote control or similar small device (much less if it can already go beep, and/or is a learning remote).

Then it could go "beep" every so often if not exposed to light for, say, 48 hours. The pattern of beeps that would maximise battery life, minimise annoyance and maximise locatability, on the other hand, would be non-obvious.

ZigBee would be the thing — an open standard for low-power low-bandwidth wireless mesh communication.

Unfortunately, I've been waiting half a decade for it to become massive. Now I fear it never will. )-8
