I read the first two Alex Verus novels and was so-so: I loved the setting and some of the characters, and the concept of a diviner mage's special place in the world as opposed to mages with more direct powers; but they didn't grab me as a whole.
But he wrote a campaign journal of a roleplaying campaign he played in on the Order of the Stick forums (linked above) which is hilarious. The first few sessions are interesting but a bit rough as they learn the system and he learns how to write them up well, but I was totally sucked into the whole thing and several episodes had me in stitches :)
