Only NOW do I start to think "which side is correct?" is massively begging the question!

I think maybe I'm going to start calling the Enlightened "Kang" and the Resistance "Kodos" from now on :)

Thank you! I obviously use it correctly, though apparently I should do so more often :)

In fact, this is one change in usage I don't care about as much as I might: I think "assumes the answer" (petitio principii) would usually be clearer than "begs the question", and it's usually clear whether someone is using the original meaning or the "inviting the question" meaning, so it's annoying, but doesn't necessarily do a lot of harm.

I assumed that was by design. You want to have two groups, both of which can assure themselves they are the "good guys", otherwise people will be more likely to join one side than the other.

(Unless the bad guys get better suits, of course.)

Yes, they're obviously written to be a fairly arbitrary choice, it gives a two-sentence summary of both that's not terribly informative and says "pick one". That's probably a good choice for all the reasons you say.

So I got "there's not a right answer". But I hadn't really thought about the plot, so I hadn't stopped to explicitly consider "both are bad guys" :)

Presumably also the plot is rather constrained by the fact that game mechanically the two factions are each other in different hats.

My brain immediately couches this in XCOM: Enemy Within terms, and concludes "XCOM get cooler toys than EXALT".
