Simple, a little bit of tedious "oh look, young guy is clueless, old guy is gnomic, ha ha", but good fun, and a nice straightforward modern adaption of traditional wizard ideas like bringing stuff to life and shooting flames at each other.
The trouble is, now I seem to have a much lower tolerance for films where not that much happens. Eventually I will turn into someone who can't stand anything mainstream at all, and just watch highly stylised Scandanavian films.
