My new bike is still going. It is nice to have convenient flicky gears.

I've cycled down a few places I knew but have never cycled. The railway foot/cycle bridge. Garret Hostel[1] Bridge -- the route I got tired of when I lived at the back of Trinity.

Why can't we have big heavy spinning wheels on bikes to transfer momentum to when you break/go downhill and recoup after. It'd be like a bagpipe where you peddle constantly independent of current speed. Other than being really complex and heavy to carry.

I've cycled home with people a couple of times. It's a skill in itself knowing when to pull in and when double abreast is ok.

[1] All bridges in cambridge seem to have many names. Does any beat this one?

You know, that's given me a mental picture I'm going to find very hard to get rid of... :-)

The bicycle-bagpipe hybrid.

Regenerative braking for bikes would be great. It'd be extra weight though...

I want artificial mass for *so many* things.

Switchably negative mass would be kinda handy. Though if the intertial mass was negative then there would be health and safety issues (bump into it and it would move towards you, so the reaction force from your body increases, so it accelerates towards you, making it worse...

Well, I was envisaging changing non-negative masses -- though even that would probably give you free energy.

You're right, negative mass would be dangerous.

Don't you mean "Garret Hostel Lane Bridge"? :)

Yes, I do. That is what "Garret Hostel Bridge" *does* mean, isn't it? Assuming the standard convention of abbreviating street names when the name part is unambiguous.

;p :)

What????

There are actually people who call it Garret Hostel Bridge?!?!?!

*incredibly shocked*

As opposed to what? As I say, I've heard a few names, but I thought GH would be clear to everyone if they know where GHL is.

I always thought that everyone called it the bridge of orgasms...?

Maybe I've just found the few people who don't...

I've heard that too, but not that *everyone* does: I've also heard "Trinity Bridge", "Trinity Hall bridge" and a couple of others, so thought orgasm bridge would be more confusing, though in retrospect, maybe not :)

Surely "Trinity Bridge" is that one in Trinity grounds?

And "Trinity Hall Bridge" must be the library,,, (...well it's on stilts at the least...)
