On friday we went to see "The Island." Hmmm. Well, I don't regret it, I was glad of an excuse to go out. And the second half was quite fun. But, boy, it was even more cliche'd than I thought.

Minor spoilers )

[1] I may forgive it in Dune sequals and OSC early novels because they were so fun in other ways, and made it seem a natural part of the 'magic'. Here there was even little reason for it.
[2] Family joke: "Se-an Bean?" "No, Sean Baughn Y'maughn!"
[3] All tomotoes have genes in. GM tomatoes have *different* ones (or, in some cases more) but genes aren't inherently bad.

It's the extrememly wonderful meme [livejournal.com profile] peeeeeeet invented
1) Alert me to yourself.
2) I will pick five people on your flist and ask some questions about them. But they will be good questions like "if jekesta were made of peanut butter, would she be crunchy or smooth?"
3) You then bung this new meme in your LJ, thus making peeeeeeet a famous meme creator.

Questions from Rochvelleth:

1) If [livejournal.com profile] atreic were a chocolate bar, what sort would she be, and why?

Um. Oh, something thick and rich and sweet you just want to cuddle all over.

2) If you gave [livejournal.com profile] angelofthenorth a shiny dagger, what would she do with it?

I'm not sure. Pull it out of Aslan's heart to bring him back to life, probably.

3) If [livejournal.com profile] megamole were a famous fictional character, who would he be?

Someone big and bad-ass and bearded and cuddly. Or Gimli has become canonical :)

4) Why would [livejournal.com profile] sonicdrift be sneaking up on you with a secret weapon? And what would the weapon be?

Because I live to torment her to abstraction at every opportunity? And the shiny dagger sounds good...

5) If you could implicate [livejournal.com profile] toft_froggy in an OTP pairing, what would it be and why?

I've only ever met her IRL once. But a quick look at her livejournal gives her talking on the subject of: Courtney Love expecting Steve Coogan's baby. Sorted.

There's several films I'd half like to see, but unfortunately I can't combine them and see one really good film. Still, I'd like to see *one*.

I propose another cinema outing on friday, to see Bewitched, and again meeting 6.10 and eating after at zebra (or, if raining, Chilli's).

But I also considered Dukes of Hazard and Unleashed (at the same time within 10 min). Does anyone recommend any?

They all got abyssmal reviews (mainly from people who liked the original series), but after imdb told me to see The Island I decided not to bother listening :)

It's quite clever, isn't it? Well, it got some right. But seems mainly to follow the algorithm of "Pair everyone with senji and claroscuro" which can't all be instantiated :)

OK, maybe I can justify *two* angsty poems. I had something in mind when I started this, but nothing coherent by the end. But I thought I'd post anyway; finding meaning can be an exercise for the reader :)
I cringe to think of who I used to be
And even then I hated who I was before.
And then I look at who I have become
And guess how long before I must repent of this.

The six, the sixty-six, the ages of a man
Are layered about me like an onion
And everything before is still inside
Except, a rotted tree, the core is slow forgot.

And then look out and see the empty space
Out into which my allium must grow
But even as it struggles in the waning light
It's slowly left behind by faster growing life

But can I not just like it as it is?
And yes, somtimes I do like onion
And yet, and yet, you still can't help but ask
"Why does it make you cry?"
