Saturday was MA graduation. Arts, I pwns yo az.

* I had most of the regalia
* I wasn't late
* I met lots of people I used to know, looking good in suits and gowns
* And Martin Rees. Hi!
* Everything went without a hitch, though would be nice to not be last for *once*.
* Nice dinner at Trinity, with Dave, Lucy and Katy, and other old friends, and with J and family.
* Wandered home for a nap, and in the evening went to Ashleigh's with Nakedtoes, Filecorinuse, Satanicsocks, etc.

On Sunday:

* Cycled to G meadows and strolled up to Grantchester
* Went up the river to the bridge; I don't think I've walked along that middle bit, always going through Grantchester instead.
* Spend half an hour considering pubs before plumping for one with a mushroom stroganov which was very nice, and eating it in the beer garden working on maths
* Came to New Relativity ("QED"? "Stringhouse?" "General"?) for Bridge, which was fun, though spectacular happened. (Naath: fwiw we were wway ahead on points at the end :))
* It was a great day. With nothing I needed to do I could completely relax. I should have more of those.

Yay on graduation! Did you get caught in the rain? Did you see anyone reading HP during or before the ceremony? ;-)

Rain? No, the day was glorious all day, until I finally got home, when it rained viciously until I went out in the evening :)

I don't think anyone had it actually at the ceremony, but everyone was half-way through, or finished, or just-starting, or shouting pretend spoilers to the last chapter to people who were at the party in the evening :)

Ahhh, we made the mistake of staying out too long, and then my mother decided she wanted to buy frames after all . . . That, of course, is when it rained. ::grumble::

I saw a couple people in our MCR room reading right before the ceremony. I was highly amused.

Ah, I see. Medium rain in a suit I don't mind; really heavy rain in lots of gowns I do.

HP, like it or not, is one of the few occasions when everyone gets to do something together... I'm amazed at the range of people who like it, too. And when I was on the phone discussing it I realised I needed to moderate myself every time I walked past someone :)

I still think HP is over-hyped, but I do enjoy it. If I were really sticking to my guns I should not have been in line at midnight. But it was kinda fun, and I was already at the store before then. And I had a costume already.

I don't think I know anyone who thinks it deserves *that* level of hype. But that doesn't mean it's not good enough to look forward to and participate in the gala of.

Author's series are like stars and planets: many have been brilliant, many are going to be brilliant, but few are peaking just now, so you don't get so many chances to rush to the bookshops. And it is fun to share the experience, so there's a reinforcement effect.

Well, also, I felt no urgent curiosity for the last book like others did, except when everyone kept talking about it so much that I started thinking about it all the time and wanting to know wtf was gonna happen. :-P
