Ooh, hey, once google maps has found a route it lets you drag it to change it, if you want to go another way. Has it always done that? That's great for finding distances the way you want to go, not the default best, or correcting aberrations. (OK, or maybe another site does it better? But gmaps is just always there and easy.)

I've used it quite a bit. For London routes it is very helpful, esp when trying out cycle routes. My dream is for Google Maps to learn the cycle routes....

it's fairly new. the "avoid highways" button now works for the UK as well :-)
