A reminder, Torchwood continues tonight at 9.00, featuring rogue time agent James Masters, aka Captain John, in a big flapping coat kissing rogue time agent John Barrowman, aka Captain Jack, in a big flapping coat.

Pippa's one-true-fivesome icon is going to run out of room and explode soon.

Spoiler note: I've no idea if they actually will kiss each other. I just want to get Pippa's hopes up. For all I know, Captain Jack will find out about the face of bo thing and get all serious and season 2 will not be about flirting with aliens and Captains Jack and John will be the first bisexual main characters not to kiss each other.

I thought Torchwood #1 had a lot of good ideas, but didn't really work as a whole, so I want to give #2 a try, but may end up waiting till I can borrow them all on DVD later.

Confirmation of Mr Daemon's spoiler:

According to the Telegraph (my parents left it here - honest) "Within minutes the 'omnisexual' Captain Jack is locked in a slobberingly passionate embrace with an ex-lover, Captain John Hart"

I, for one, have sent the husband out for the evening, opened a bottle of wine, and am getting ready...

They hate me! The universe in general and the American government in particular are trying to make me cry!

The trailer on the BBC site shows them kissing, so not a spoiler ...

Between 7pm and now I managed to forget Torchwood. Having read this, I shan't rush to the tv - I like SF, not slobber.

Were you going to watch it? It seems to be doing what we knew it'd be doing, it wasn't a great surprise to me...

There was a trailer and a report which suggested there might be more content in the new series, especially of a science fiction nature; so I thought I'd give it another chance.

My problem with Torchwood is that it was billed as Dr Who for adults, and I expected more science, more thought, and more depth. What we got was more adolescent than adult. The disappointment reduced my tolerance. It's possible that it isn't as bad as I think, and the one-and-two-parts episodes I've watched were representative of the more tedious parts of the series and didn't give a fair picture (btw the episode I switched off was the one with the pointy-boobed semi-robot).

Anyway, the captain character seems arrogant and sleazy and really winds me up, but I'd ignore that if it didn't constitute so much of the whole programme.

Oh, I see. That makes sense, I didn't see that.

Yes, that *would* have been nice. You could see it was trying in some sense -- the rain-swept welsh streets and autocratic in/irresponsible government agency all suggest something grittier, it had the *trappings* of a more adult sort of science fiction, but didn't actually go so far as to, eg. explore interesting ideas of science (or even have an interesting plot, despite a number of good ideas).

Perhaps I would have been able to accept it as a bit of entertaining trivia if it *hadn't* had the good ideas. Wasted! And now if other writers came along who could develop the good ideas, it would be decried as derivative.

Aha! We need a Torchwood spin-off.

I can't possibly believe that's the right answer to anything, though it's awfully tempting ;) Or a rip-off: after all there are other somewhat similar rainy techno-fantasy series.

If you gave the premise, the characters, and some of the ideas to someone else to make, it could be really quite good. I'm just wondering of whom I've said "Well, they're really good at plot and science, if only someone had given them interesting premises and characters" :)

Oh, and I usually like James Marsters very much.
