You know that bit at the end of a film, where two giant robots smash into each other, and become one super giant robot with glowing eye beams that takes over the world? Well apparently now livejournal is becoming integrated with facebook.

(Specifically, one of the options on lj posts status updates to your facebook mini-feed reporting what posts you make.)

No doubt you mean that at least one actual film actually has this bit, and/or that some surprisingly large set of films have bits at the end which are thematically similar to what you describe.

But I'm quite liking the idea that you're talking about films in general, and that all (e.g.) sappy romantic comedies actually have two giant robots smashing into each other somewhere in the background during the final half hour if only you know where to look :-)

Yes, that's a good description of what I meant, though your image is very appropriate to what i was thinking. No, I think actually what I meant was somewhere between all three interpretations, a comic exaggeration suggesting giant robot films really do constitute a big majority of films, rather than just occasionally feeling like it :)

Another interpretation is that a sappy romantic comedy climax might metaphorically be a giant robot battle.

Yes.

I think you need to be logged in to FB at the time too.

Yes, and what Rob said too. I think the technique relies on being logged into facebook, as facebook logins are the one thing you can't fiddle with an "application" but being unlocked was just the obvious choice, as the lj applet is part of livejournal rather than a third-party add-in, it could see locked posts, but wisely doesn't extend it that far.

I think it *could* do, for instance, livejournal could have an option to consider facebook friends one friend group you could choose to show locked posts to, authenticating them with an open-id system or something.
