Thoughts - The rush
Jan. 10th, 2005 07:49 pmGod damn it! How could it take me a day to track down that bug? It was the SAME BUG AS LAST TIME ie. the debugger zeros memory, so if you accidently don't null-terminate a string, you don't notice the bug until you don't debug. NEXT TIME, I will code more carefully. REALLY.
Other amusing quotes from work:
"They said it would be ready some time next year. Don't worry, this was last month."
"The code was unpolished. They used exclusive or instead of to the power of."
"It appears that the American time is five-and-a-quater-hours behind us. At least, that's the best explanation for why we always have to wait at the start of teleconferences."
In other news. It *does* feel better to get up at eight and go to bed at midnight than get up at 11 and go to bed at 3. Why did I used to find it so difficult? Apparently getting in to work early (or at least, in the morning) is approved of more than I realised. I wonder if anyone will believe me that my decision to do so is coincidental with that revelation.

Date: 2005-01-10 08:18 pm (UTC)you know, one of the things I've noticed lately is that all those things you throw out as you grow up because they're just your parents nagging and unimportant - actually, your parents were *right* about (some of) them. well, I don't know about your parents, but mine...

Yeah, I get "If only I'd believed X" all the time. And will probably go on doing so. Though as I've often observed, it's not just a matter of not listening; you can know something as a fact, but not FOLLOW it until it's really driven home in some way, typically by life experience.
