The Cambridge Tolkien(TM) Society agm was on saturday. It was pretty professional, and we did, like, accounts and stuff :)

There was discussion on the Tolkien(TM) being trademarked issue(TM). A couple of resolutions were passed, hoping to head off any similar trouble in the future, though whether that'll ever be necessary we don't know.

Everyone thinks we should do *something* about it, but no-one really has time for a protracted legal battle. Mark's offered to help, and we hope to do something, though some of the committee can't take any more of it.

There were amusing motions of censure, including, as most societies seem to have, ones repeated every year against people who's original crimes have long been forgotten. Neil was *not* censured[2].

I am keeper of the red book.

Dinner

Then there was dinner. The food was good (often expensive stuff seems to be not worth it, but this was nice). As was the wine (though that might just have been mho). I ended up staying everso late, and all in all was a wonderful evening. It was nice to see people I know but I don't normally see very often. Many people looked squeeful in blakc ties or wonderful dresses (or red silk chinese thingies).

I kissed many (well, a few) people[1], and there were many lesbian socialist utopias, though some people doubt the validity of the one made up of men. There was also much cuddling with people who might have felt kissing was too far, which I hope everyone enjoyed (sorry to anyone who didn't).

There was much geeky scifi/fantasy discussion I don't remember that well, including even some Tolkien!

The next day I did have a bit of a hangover, and didn't drink on sunday at poohsoc agm, due to training course on monday. I don't seem to get *headaches* with a hangover, I just feel woozy. So it could be a lot worse. If I can curl up at home, then they're not a problem. Though here it was unfortunate that I woke up at 11ish and couldn't sleep, and then felt normally tired again a bit later, just in time to go out. But a bit of food, and getting up form bed every hour to drink water helped a lot.

Footnotes

[1] I realised about 3/4 of the way through the night something that had started to dawn on me at the *last* drunken kissing orgy I was at. I sort of missed out on the phase of life eveyone else goes through at school where you get to be wanton and experiment (skipping straight to the 'serious long term relationship' at uni), and since relived it a bit, but now, like a lot of other poeple did, I grew up, by realising that it was nice, but I've done it now, and something more meaningful was desirable.[3]

[2] Poohsoc tradition, except that Neil is still about, even if he can't come to poohsoc much. And death circuses were mentioned, but only briefly[4].

[3] On the other hand, I didn't kiss anyone I didn't actually *like* (last time having felt a rather cheap when I kissed people who were pretty and wanted to kiss me, but I didn't really know or like) so that turned out well.

[4] Spawned at a cusfs discussion last week. Now I say it all the time, like a death circus.

I did experiments at school, but I doubt my science teachers would have liked them called wanton.

"I'll stick my tongue in here and see if there's a spark." Most forms of experimentation come to the same thing :)

I don't remember sticking my tongue in anything, although I frightened my chemistry partner once by blowing a bunsen burner out, which is sort of like, well, it's with my mouth, anyway.

...and would also fill the room with asphixiating explosive gas.

I remember someone thinking it was a good idea to chain a battery and a lot of transformers and his tongue together. It seemed logical at the time (and turned out perfectly safe). But no, I never stuck my tongue in anything more chemical than Roz's mouth :)
