In multistory carpark ticket machines (and other similar machines) there's often a brightly coloured "press for help" button. This obviously makes sense, but I never had occasion to _press_ one before.

This weekend someone spoke to me just as I was paying, and I took my credit card and walked away leaving my ticket in the machine. Thirty seconds later I came running back, but I couldn't find the ticket anywhere. But the intercom was clear and intelligible, and the attendant I spoke to asked when I'd paid and how much, and found a record of it, and told me to go straight to the exit, and remotely opened the barrier.

I shouldn't be surprised that they have a helpful level of service, but I was honestly pleased.

I officially have no longer any desire to game the system, even if I thought I could :)

Quite often. At least at the Grafton, that button (at the entrance rather than the paystation) is the means of receiving a discounted ticket using a disabled parking permit.
